K9 Therapy in the Metrolina Region
K9 therapy has been found to have a substantial positive impact on the mental health well-being of healthcare workers and first responders alike. Beginning in 2020, MHPC began piloting a regional K9 therapy program amongst our first responders. Senior Assistant Coordinator, KC Bernesser, spent years training Thor to become a therapy dog in order to further help healthcare workers and first responders. In addition to providing therapy to healthcare providers and first responders, KC is also participating in a research study with MEDIC on the effects of therapy dogs on 911 providers following stressful situations.
